About Aaron
Dr. Aaron Poynton is an executive with AGI (Applied General Intelligence), an artificial intelligence company developing next-generation systems grounded in coherence and reasoning for high-reliability, mission-critical applications. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the American Society for AI, a nonpartisan organization convening leaders from industry, government, academia, and civil society to shape the future of artificial intelligence. He is a Board Member of the United Nations Association and previously served as Chairman of the United Nations 80th Anniversary Gala. He was previously President of a Board of Education in Maryland and President of the Harvard Business School AMP Foundation, a nonprofit expanding STEM opportunities for underprivileged students. A best-selling author, entrepreneur, and former U.S. Army officer, Dr. Poynton has founded companies across energy, defense, consulting, and biotechnology and has led international initiatives in advanced technology, modernization, and global security. He holds advanced degrees in law, business, economics, political science, and executive leadership through programs at Harvard Business School, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, the London School of Economics, the University System of Maryland, and George Washington University.

Aaron is a three-time best-selling author whose work explores leadership and unconventional thinking, and he serves as the executive editor of the anthology AI for Humanity. He has authored dozens of papers on leadership and technology and has been featured by the Mensa Foundation, the London School of Economics Press, MIT Media Lab, and other prestigious publications.
Aaron believes that in a constantly evolving world, continuous education is essential to staying at the leading edge of learning. Over the course of his career, he has earned a doctorate and three master’s degrees in law, business, and political science from institutions including Harvard Business School, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, and the London School of Economics.
Aaron is committed to giving back and devotes significant time to nonprofit and public service leadership. He serves as Executive Director of the American Society for AI, sits on the Board of the United Nations Association, and previously led a public board of education.
